Seaside juniper

Last updated August 4, 2009

Here are several photos of the Seaside juniper (Juniperus maritima) endemic to the shorelines of the inner marine straits of northern Washington and southern British Columbia.

These photos were taken August 1, 2009 in the sand dunes along the west side of Craneberry Lake, Deception Pass State Park, Whidbey Island, Washington. This small population occurs just inside the first line of dunes from the beach. It is mixed with Douglas Fir and Sitka Spruce.
