Paraplow tillage 33-38 cm deep in the Palouse fractured tillage pans that had formed over 25 yrs, but the pans reformed within 20 months. Paraplow tillage did not change soil water storage, soil water extraction, stand establishment, pea biomass, or pea yield. Leaving >30% of the soil covered with crop residue did not influence soil temperature, soil water content, pea stand, pea biomass, or pea yield as compared with leaving 5% of the soil covered.
