Post-doctoral Research Associate wanted

to coordinate research and outreach effort for spotted wing drosophila (SWD) on tree fruits in eastern Washington. This invasive species was first found in this region in 2010, and is currently a threat to Washington’s 35,000+acre sweet cherry industry. The candidate will coordinate a state-wide monitoring program and lead research efforts in trap development, fruit susceptibility, and control, and supervise graduate and undergraduate students working on the project. In addition, the candidate will lead outreach efforts on SWD to growers and consultants, including websites, brochures, workshops and oral/poster presentations.

Requirements: Ph.D. in entomology; experience in tree crops preferred; demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research; demonstrated ability in outreach activities; must be comfortable in front of grower audiences with a high degree of proficiency in colloquial American English. The position is located at the Washington State University Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center in Wenatchee, WA, with state and regional travel as necessary. Salary $43,000/yr plus benefits (12 mo 1.00FTE); annual appointment with 1 year renewal possible. Begins November 2011.
